Dog Sledding Tours at Villmark Husky Farm - Overview

Set amongst lush pine forest at the banks of river Ljøra and surrounded by gently rounded mountains, the Villmark Lodge is a true romantic hideaway. Your 8 days at the Villmark Husky Farm includes a three day basic instruction course in dog sledding. Learn the essentials of handling the dogs and the sled, harnessing and taking care of your assigned dogs and building a good rapport with your team.

Drive your own sled through the breathtaking scenery of winter Norway. Pass through deep forests, cross frozen lakes and rivers, and discover the stunning scenery of wild mountains, remote and endless highland plains. At the end of the week, you will be rewarded with a ‘musher certificate’. This will truly be an experience of a lifetime!

Dog Sledding Tours at Villmark Husky Farm - Itinerary

Day1: Saturday
After arriving at the Oslo City Bus Terminal / Oslo Gardermown Airport, you take the comfortable express coach service "Trysilexpressen" to Trysil bus station. At Trysil bus station you will be met by the driver who will take you in an air-conditioned vehicle to Ljørdalen. Lying right at the Swedish border and in the heart of a spectacular mountain area, the tiny village of Ljørdalen is situated 37 kilometres from Norway’s most famous and biggest skiing area, Trysil. You will be transferred to the Villmark Lodge in Ljørdalen.

Villmark Lodge is a cosy resort accommodation built in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings and out of the local building materials, timber and glass. The Lodge consists of 10 free-standing cottages (double houses) with 2 private apartments each and a central building with reception, a cosy restaurant with fireplace, bar, billiard table. Furthermore, the resort features a centrally located complimentary sauna. The spacious apartments are suitable for up to 4 guests. They are furnished in typical Norwegian style and offer a private entrance, 2 bedrooms (1 double / 1 bunk bed), a separate bathroom, a cosy living area, TV, and an open gallery. Bed linen, towels and cleaning fee are included. Pets are welcome.

Your package includes daily breakfast, lunch package and dinner, throughout your stay. Day 2: Sunday
After breakfast you will be taken to the Villmark Husky Farm situated just a few kilometres outside the village of Ljørdalen in the hills. Your dog sledging tours start from the Villmark Husky Farm, it will take you about 10-15 minutes to reach here. An experienced multilingual guide speaking English, Norwegian and German, will give you a comprehensive introduction into dog sledding. After which, you will be able to familiarise yourself with the dogs, learn their names, harnessing and handling of the dogs and the sled. Soon you will be able to harness the dogs by yourself and drive your own dog sled on a short tour. Day 3 and 4: Monday and Tuesday
The guide will give you a great insight into the world of dog sledding. Slowly you will become a team with your assigned dogs and realise that it is the special relationship with the dogs you develop over the days that becomes the greatest of your experiences. Step by step, the length and level of the tours will be increased. Accompanied by your guide, you will drive your own sled with 4-6 huskies on prepared trails through the Norwegian winter wonderland. Day 5: Wednesday
Today is a free day for you and the huskies. If you don't want to simply relax there are plenty of optional activities to choose from such as cross country skiing, a snowmobile safari, a guided tour with snow-shoes, a moose safari on cross country skies or tobogganing on Norway's longest toboggan-run, alpine skiing (all payable direct). Day 6 and 7: Thursday and Friday
You will explore the wilderness with your dog sled. While enjoying the spectacular landscape and breathtaking views on the tour, you will also further improve your handling of the sled and will almost become an inseparable team with your assigned dogs. On Friday, you will receive your ‘musher certificate’ and you are sure to have a great last night together with your co-travellers and new friends before you leave next morning with unforgettable memories. Day 8: Saturday
After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred by your driver to Trysil bus station where you depart on the express coach service "Trysilexpressen" to Oslo City Bus Terminal / Oslo Gardermoen Airport.

Additional Info
Length and level of the tours will be increased day by day. Depending on the weather conditions and the skills of the group, the length of the tours will vary between 15 and 50 kilometres per day.
The tours are suitable for everyone who has a reasonable level of fitness. An average level of fitness is required as dog-sledding can be quite exhausting for the musher himself depending on the weather and snow conditions. It might be necessary to assist the dogs when climbing up a hill.
Lunch packages must be prepared by the guests themselves at breakfast.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.

The Itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions and skills of the group.
Minimum age for steering a sled is 18 years. 16 years if accompanied by an adult.
Minimum age to participate in the dog sledding tours at all (as passenger in the sled of the guides) is 10 years.
Children younger than 10 years may unfortunately not participate in the tours. Day care for children under 10 years for the duration of the tours can generally be arranged upon request.
Please call the local activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
There are up to 16 daily connections by “Trysilekspressen“ (Bus No. 130) between Oslo City Bus Terminal (Bussterminal Galleriet) and Trysil. The coach also stops at the International Airport Oslo Gardermoen. The coaches used by NOR-WAY Bussekspress are comfortable with ample legroom, reclining seats and air-conditioning.
Duration of travel: From Oslo City Bus Terminal: approx. 3 ½ hours, from airport Gardermoen: approx. 3 hours.
