St. Petersburg Tour- Peter and Paul Fortress and St Issacs Cathedral - Itinerary

The tour picks you up from your hotel in the city. Start with a drive around the historic centre of St. Petersburg. Often referred to as an outdoor museum of Architecture, the historic centre of the city is listed as a World Heritage Site. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Neva River, Canal Griboyedova, Moika canal, the many bridges connecting the city islands, the Old Holland area of the city and trips to the 2 main islands of Petrogradsky and Vasilevsky.

After this orientation drive proceed to Nevsky Prospect, this is the city’s most famous boulevard. Adorned with beautiful buildings, squares and bridges, the Nevsky Prospect is today the very center of the city. See the impressive Kazan Cathedral and the Alexander Nevsky Monastery. Enjoy the wonderful view of Kanal Griboedova and the picturesque Russian-style Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood.

Just a stone's throw from Nevsky Prospect is the Arts Square and the Russian Museum. Also worth seeing are the Russian National Library (the second largest branch in the country), an impressive monument to Catherine the Great and the Anichkov Bridge, adorned with 4 striking equestrian statues.

Nevsky Prospect is also the city’s central shopping street and the hub of the city’s entertainment and nightlife.

Continue to the Palace Square. The Palace Square houses the Baroque Winter Palace (built in 1754-62). The most famous building of imperial St. Petersburg, the palace served as the residence of the Tsars and the backdrop for the 1905 and 1917 Revolutions. The Winter Palace, with its opulent baroque facade, stretching two hundred meters, is undoubtedly the most famous building of the square and it houses the Hermitage, the world's largest museum of art.

Visit the St. Isaac’s Cathedral, The dome of which dominates the skyline of St. Petersburg and its gilded cupola can be seen glistening from all over the city. Climb up the 300 or so steps to the observation walkway at the base of the cathedral’s dome and enjoy the breathtaking views over the city. One of the finest architectural monuments of the 19th century, this former principal cathedral of the Russian capital has a seating capacity of 14,000 people.

End your tour with a visit to St Peter and Paul Fortress, The fortress was founded by Peter the Great in 1703. Besides the ancient fortifications, it includes the Peter and Paul Cathedral, built in the early 18th century. The cathedral houses the burial vault of Peter the Great and other Russian Tsars. It is also home to a wealth of fascinating museums, the museum of Trubetskoy, and exhibitions on the History of St. Petersburg, the History of the Imperial Mint as well as a printing workshop and the museum of space exploration and missilery. You can walk along the walls of the fortress and observe the fabulous architecture of the surrounding areas.
