Salmon and Trout Fishing in the Shannon Region - Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive at Millbank House, located on the banks of the Mulcair River in the Shannon Region. Built in 1733 by the Keays family, it is one of Ireland’s most famous fishing houses offering professional services on site. Millbank House provides a relaxed atmosphere and offers fishing enthusiasts all the modern comforts. You are at leisure for the rest of the day. Spend the night at Millbank House. Day 2
In the morning, visit the Mulcair River, considered one of the finest salmon fisheries in the Shannon region. March is the best time for salmon fishing. You can also fish for small brown trout on the upper stretches of the Bilboa River. After fishing for salmon and trout, return to Millbank House for the night. Day 3
Enjoy fishing on the Mulcair River. Return to Millbank House for the night. Day 4
Visit the Castleconnell Salmon Fishery located on the River Shannon near the quaint village of Castleconnell, north of Limerick city. This world famous salmon fishery is divided into 8 beats, each about 800 metres long, with 3 rods to a beat. The fishery allows fly fishing, spinning and worm fishing. Castleconnell, an important spring fishery, provides good fishing from mid-March to mid-May. Enjoy salmon fishing and return to Millbank House for the night. Day 5
Visit the River Suir that rises in Devil’s Bit Mountain, runs south to Cahir and then east to Waterford Harbour. It holds a heavy stock of fish and has several tributaries which also provide good trout fishing. The general character of the river is a long series of rather shallow gravelly glides with very rich weed growth. Wading is generally easy and there is plenty of cover, though the trees do not interfere too much with angling. Ideal salmon fishing spots are located downstream from Ardfinnan towards Carrick-on-Suir. After a round of salmon fishing, return to Millbank House for the night. Day 6
Take a fishing trip to Newport River, ideal for salmon fishing. It gets a good run of spring salmon right from the start of the season and can yield 3-4 salmon on the opening day. The river twists and turns through rough pasture, bog and woodland and has well maintained banks with bridges (wading is not necessary here). It has at least 24 pools and can comfortably accommodate 8 or 10 rods per day. After a day of fishing, return to Millbank House for the night. Day 7
After breakfast, depart from Millbank House and proceed to your onward destination.

The itinerary is flexible and you can pick on which days you would like to take each included fishing trip. Your host at the Millbank hotel will be able to advise you when you will get the best days fishing based on local conditions.
The Hotel and the location used for fishing are not well-covered by public transport routes, you are advised to hire a car for the duration of your stay.

Millbank House is located just outside the Village of Murroe. From Shannon airport go past Limerick city along the Tipperary road (N24): for 12km (Approx) after passing the little village of Boher turn Left onto R505 and continue straight for 4km and you will see sign outside Millbank
