Itinerary
Amphitheatre: The Amphitheatre was build in the 3rd century, BC. It has 25,000 seats and an 18 meter high stage house. The theatre was used both for entertainment in the form of concerts and plays, and for religious, political and philosophical discussions, as well as gladiator and animal fights.Ephesus Terrace Houses: These 1st century AD houses were known as houses for the rich. Two of the houses have been restored and are open to the public as museums.Octagon: The Octagon is a burial chamber for Ptolemy Arsinoe IV, the youngest sister of the famous Cleopatra VII. She was murdered in 41 BC.Marble Road: The Marble Road starts from the amphitheatre to the Celsus Library. This is a portion of the sacred way that leads past Panayirdagi to the Temple of Artemis. The road was built in the 1st century A.D, and it was later rebuilt in the 5th century.The Temple of Artemis: The Temple of Artemis is one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, dating back to the 6th century AD. You’ll see the ruins of the temple; columns made entirely of marble. The most beautiful preserved pieces from the temple are on display at the London British Museum.
