Bangkok Sightseeing in a Tuk-Tuk - Itinerary

There is no hotel pick-up for this Tuk Tuk experience in Bangkok . Please make your way to the lobby of the Viengtai Hotel, 42 Rambutri Rd, Banglamphu. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this exciting tour.

This small group tour has a maximum of 12 passengers per tour.

Transfer to the Phra Sumer Fortress on on Phra Arthit (meaning "Sun" in Thai) Road, which was built during the reign of Rama I and is the largest of two extant structures from the 14 originally erected.

Board your tuk tuk, or auto rickshaw, which will convey you through the complicated ballet of Bangkok traffic. With three wheels and no doors, the tuk tuk is one of the most recognizable symbols of Southeast Asia, and is the most authentic way to explore Thailand.

Travel past Thammasart University into Phra Chan (meaning "moon") Road to the Amulet Market , where various religious amulets, charms and traditional medicines are available. Your guide will explain how amulets are used to bring good luck or ward off evil in traditional Thai culture.

Your next stop is the temple of Wat Po , which was renamed Wat Phra Chetuphon in 1801. The temple is the spiritual center of the Buddhist religion in Thailand, and is distinguished by an enormous statue of the reclining Buddha. Wat Phra Chetuphon was the site of the country’s first university and still houses a school where traditional Thai massage and medicine are taught. Follow your guide through this fascinating 17th century temple complex.

Continue by tuk tuk to Phahurat Market , located in the heart of Bangkok's little India, where all varieties of fabrics, cloths, ornaments and accessories are sold alongside delicious subcontinental snacks.

Continue your journey to Woeng Nakorn Kasem in the Klong Thom quarter , also known as the "thieves market". The market earned its nickname at a time when stolen goods would often turn up there for sale, though this in no longer the case. These days it’s a thriving second-hand market specializing in Thai and Chinese antiques. Peruse an array of porcelain wares and beautiful furniture.

Proceed to the temple of Wat Saket , which sits at the bottom of an artificial hill grandly referred to as the Golden Mount . Dating from the Ayuthaya era, prior to Bangkok becoming the capital of the Siamese kingdom, the temple was used for cremation ceremonies.

During the reign of King Rama III, the Golden Mount was constructed. A chedi was added to the top that caused the hill to collapse. Under King Rama IV a more permanent hill of clay and bricks was constructed, followed by the chedi that still stands today. Your guide leads you through the complex and up the 318 steps to the top of the Golden Mount, where you’ll have a 360-degree view of Rattankosin Island .

This is the last stop of the tour, after which you are free to continue sightseeing on your own or go to a local market with our guide for an optional lunch (payable direct). If you wish to return to your hotel, your guide will assist you in getting a taxi (payable direct).
