Communist Krakow Tour – Nowa Huta - Overview

This tour of Nowa Huta near Krakow, gives you a unique chance to explore a town built by communists after the Second World War, mainly to destroy aristocratic and intellectual character and traditions of Krakow, by establishing Lenin Steelworks – a factory that employed over 40,000 workers and produced close to seven million tons of steel annually and also supported a wide range of social and cultural facilities in the town.

Communist Krakow Tour – Nowa Huta - Itinerary




You will be picked up from centrally located hotels in Krakow in a coach.

The tour starts in Central Square, in the very heart of Nowa Huta, near which an enormous statue of the city’s patron – Lenin – used to stand.

Proceed towards Steelworks – now owned by the ‘Mittal Steel Company’. Admire the size of the factory and learn about its history as you pass by.

Visit the Museum of Nowa Huta, which holds exhibitions dedicated to the history and tradition of the city.

See the Nowa Huta Cross which symbolises the bloody fight for the establishment of a church in the town. Visit the ‘Lord’s Ark Church’.

The final stop of the tour is at the Monument Commemorating the Site of Bogdan Wlosik’s Death, which is dedicated to all victims of Martial Law, imposed in Poland in 1981.

The journey comes to an end in a typical communist era bar, where over a drink, you’ll discover more about the absurdities of life under the communist rule.

You will be dropped back to your original point of pick-up in Krakow.
