Work with an Acclaimed Melbourne Winemaker - Itinerary


For your Work with an acclaimed Melbourne winemaker experience, you will be picked up from your choice of the following departure: Sebel Heritage Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, Yarra Valley or Melbourne City Centre Hotels, or the railway station at Lilidale or Berwick.

The journey to the winery will take only 30 minutes and you will arrive in time for a 1000h (10.00 am) start. You will be welcomed with coffee and introduced to the winemaker as well as to the rest of the small group participating. You will then be briefed on safety issues and given some background on the full winemaking process. The winemaker will then explain the activities planned for the group and give the training required. You will then be invited to participate in the tasks and will be assisted by the winemaker and his team.

The types of activities depend on the time of year but could include the following:

• Weigh grapes arriving for processing

• Add preservative and enzymes to grapes

• Process grapes through the destemmer / crusher to remove stalks and crush grapes

• Pump grapes into fermentation vessels

• Add yeast and nitrogen to initiate fermentation

• Monitor active ferments' chemical indicators

• Press grapes to separate wine from skins

• Prepare/clear machinery.



There will be a break for lunch when you will enjoy a delicious wood-fired gourmet Italian pizza and a glass of wine or soft drink. Afterwards, work will continue until mid-afternoon.

You will then be invited to participate in a 1-hour Masterclass led by the winemaker. The two consulting winemakers are currently rated at Red Five Star – the highest classification from the authoritative Australian Wine Companion, equivalent to a French Grand Cru Wine estate.

When the Masterclass is over, you will be taken back to your hotel or to a railway station. Please tell your guide which drop-off point is most convenient for you.

Please Note
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
Please be prepared for a hands-on, ‘get your hands dirty’ event.
A minimum of eight people is required for the tour to run.
Please state your preferred language at time of booking.
Participants need to be fit and mobile. The tour is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or on crutches
Do's & Don'ts
Please wear old clothes and sturdy shoes or boots as you will probably get dirty and/or stained with red wine while working with the grapes

How to book

A confirmation voucher for your activity will appear on your screen and a copy will be sent to your mailbox.
You can easily change your dates,number of travelers and tour options during and after the booking process.
If your tour status is On Request we will not charge your card until we have been able to confirm your booking with our supplier.  If your tour status is bookable online, your card will be charged when you click confirm and pay.Please note that you don't have to pay anything at the destination.
What happens after you book
Please print the electronic voucher sent to you and give them to the operator on the day of the activity.
The voucher also includes the operator's complete contact details, and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you have.
