Spend the day tasting some of the finest wines in Australia on this Hunter Valley Tour.

The Hunter Valley is just 2 hours drive North of Sydney but a million miles away from the stress of city living. The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest and one of its greatest wine areas, though it produces only a tiny proportion of the countries wines - about 2 per cent. First established more than 150 years ago, it is home to some 80 wineries ranging from famous labels to very small 'boutique' winemakers. The Hunter Valley is renowned for its full-bodied white wines, 'medium weight reds' and some excellent ports.

Some of the vineyards belong to big name companies such as Lindemans, McWilliams, Rothbury, Hardy's, Wyndham Estate and McGuigan. Others, like Tyrells and Draytons, are very old Hunter Valley family concerns which have been there for several generations and remained independent.

On this Hunter Valley tour you will trace the winemaking process from vine to bottle as you tour the vineyards and winery with the scent of crushed grapes in the air. A wine appreciation session will guide you through the textures and tasting of different wines.

Hunter Valley Tour and Wine Appreciation Course – from Sydney - Itinerary




You will be picked up from your hotel in Sydney and travel by coach on this Hunter Valley tour.

Depart Sydney via the Harbour Bridge and travel through the spectacular Hawkesbury district, stopping in historic Wollombi for morning tea.

On arrival in the Hunter Valley, your tour group will take private wine tasting sessions at two of the regions finest wineries; Lindemans Winery and Hunter Resort Country Estate. You will also have some time to enjoy a stroll through the Hunter Valley Gardens.

As part of these tasting sessions you will partake in an "Introduction to Wine Appreciation" course. You will learn about styles, techniques and how to blend your own wine. Lunch will be a smorgasboard of tasting platters offered during your wine tasting sessions.

As you travel back to Sydney you will pass through lush rolling hills with small wineries dotted across the landscape.

The last stop of the day is at Oakvale, one of Australia's oldest working wineries, where you will sample boutique wine at its finest. Take part in an interesting back of house tour to learn about how the wine is made from the grape to the bottle.

The tour ends at your hotel.
