There is no hotel pick-up for this Temples and River of Kings tour. Please make your way to the lobby of the Viengtai Hotel, 42 Rambutri Rd, Banglamphu. This is a small group tour with Maximum group size 12. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.

Begin your trip with a walk down to the banks of the Chao Praya River (meaning River of Kings) and board a traditional long tail boat. Glide across this ancient waterway and enter the canals (klongs) of Bangkok, which were utilized as a transport network in centuries past and earned the city the nickname “Venice of the East.”

In recent times, many of these klongs have been filled in and converted to roads, but in the Thonburi area, the canals survive. Your boat trip will give you insight into the removed communities that have sprouted up along the canals, seemingly a world away from the pandemonium of downtown Bangkok.

Disembark from your boat at the Wat Po temple, which was renamed Wat Phra Chetuphon in 1801. The temple is the spiritual center of the Buddhist religion in Thailand, and is distinguished by an enormous statue of the reclining Buddha. Wat Phra Chetuphon was the site of the country’s first university and still houses a school where traditional Thai massage and medicine are taught. Follow your guide through this fascinating 17th century temple complex.

Walk to Bangkok’s incomparable Grand Palace. Built in 1782 in time for the coronation of King Rama I, the Grand Palace served as the official residence of the King of Siam, the Royal Court and administrative seat of government until the early 1900's.

Though no longer the official residence of the King, the Grand Palace is still very much a spiritual and political center of the nation, and is used for a variety of ceremonies during the year.

Conclude your experience with a tour of Wat Phra Kaew, a sacred temple crowned by golden chedis that houses the revered Emerald Buddha.

You are free to continue exploring the area at tour’s end, or your guide will assist you in getting a taxi (payable direct) back to your hotel.
